- When Jesus came into our world, he was not at all what people expected.

- Verses 1-18 is his thesis: Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
- Chapters 2-21 are the evidence that this is true.
- John 20:30-31 states his purpose.
“Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his
disciples which are not written in this book. But these are written that you may
believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing you
may have life in his name.

- Jesus is called “the Word”.

- The Word is a distinct person.
- The Word is God, co-equal with the Father yet distinct in his person as
the Son.

- “For by him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or
authorities; all things were created by him and for him.” Colossians 1:16

- “I am the resurrection and the life.

- Jesus’ coming was prophetically announced by John the Baptist. Verses 6-9
- He was revealed to the world, but the world did not recognize him. Verses 10-13

- “The Word became flesh” – he became something different than what he
was. God became a man.
- “And he made his dwelling among us” – he pitched his tent among us
temporarily.
- “The One and Only” – means he is unique, one of a kind. There is no one else like Jesus.

- He is greater than John the Baptist.

- He is greater than Moses.

- He is the image of the invisible God.

- “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of
his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for
sins, he sat down at the right hand of the majesty in heaven.” Hebrews 1:3
