Living in 3D
  • Luke 15
3
Introduction:
  • If we are to be “walk across the room” people, we need to:
4
What do we do when we get there?
  • Walk across the room people are people who live life in 3D; they are constantly looking for ways to:
5
I. Develop friendships.
  • If we are to reflect the heart of our Father, we need to be in a search mode, continually looking for ways to build relationships to bring others to Christ.
6
Look at Luke 15:1-2
  • Rather than rejoicing in the sinners that were coming to Jesus or seeing it as a good thing, the Pharisees and teachers of the law thought it was scandalous.
7
But in Jesus’ eyes, the only people more scandalous in this story were the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who could not have cared less about sinners.
8
These three parables are all about the heart of God.
  • The Parable of the Lost
  • Sheep – Luke 15:3-7
  • God cares about lost people and every time one comes home, there’s a party in heaven.
9
The Parable of the Lost Coin – Luke 15:8-10
  • Reaching the lost takes time and effort, but every time one sinner repents, there is joy in the presence of the angels.  God rejoices.
10
The Parable of the Lost Son – Luke 15:11-31
  • God is watching and waiting.  God is loving and forgiving.  God is lavish in his grace.
  • There’s another part to this story.  The older son was also separated from his father, not by location, but by the attitude of his heart.  He did not share his father’s love and he could not share his father’s joy.
11
Do we have our Father’s heart?
  • Do we care about the lost in our community, schools, neighborhood and family?
12
That’s why Jesus came.
  • “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”                 Luke 19:10
13
II. Discover stories.
  • One of the best ways to make friends is to enter their world and listen to their story.
  • When we listen to people’s stories, we discover needs that people have and we can share the gospel and our story more effectively.
14
III. Discern next steps.
  • What does this person need to take the next step?
15
Sometimes it is:
  • Encouragement
  • Prayer
  • Unconditional love
  • A book to read
  • Sharing your story
  • Challenging their thinking
  • An appropriate Scripture
  • An invitation
  • And at the right time, it’s the gospel.
16
Conclusion:
  • What were the next steps that were important for you in coming to faith in Christ?
  • If you are meeting with someone, what is the next step for them?

  • Pray that we would love people like God loves them.
