The Single Greatest Gift
  • Romans 1:16-17
2
Introduction:
  • The gospel never changes, but how we present the gospel does change.

  • What if evangelism could be as simple as taking a walk across a room?
3

4
The single greatest gift Christ-followers can give to the people around them is an introduction to the God who created them, who loves them, and who has a purpose for their life.
5
What will it take for us to give this “single greatest gift” to someone we know?
6
I.  We need to be willing to leave our circle of comfort and enter the zone of the unknown.
  • All of us have a circle of comfort.
7
It’s in the zone of the unknown where God often does his best work.
  • What if our decision to walk across the room would actually impact someone’s eternal destiny – would it be worth it?
8
The Holy Spirit wants to turn every believer, regardless of our personality or gifts, into a walk across the room kind of believer.
9
II.  We need to listen for the Spirit’s promptings.
  • It is possible to walk across the room and make things worse.

  • In order for us to be effective in the zone of the unknown, we must be led by the Spirit.
10
“You are the salt of the earth.  But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?  It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”  Matthew 5:13
11
For salt to be effective it needs two things:
  • Potency – There has to be a genuine spiritual life in us.
  • Proximity – We need to be close enough to people to affect their life.
12
III.  Just walk!
  • “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8.
13
How did you come to faith in Christ?
  • Think about what Jesus did for you and me.
14
“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”  Philippians 2:5-8
15
Jesus left the supreme circle of comfort, the Trinity.  He walked across the universe to enter our world and become like us so that we might know him.
16
Conclusion:
  • Who walked across the room for you?  If possible, send them a thank you note.  At the very least, pray for them and give thanks for them.

  • 2.  Listen to the Holy Spirit’s promptings this week and take the first step?
